Roofing in Cape Coral, Florida

Cape Coral is known for its canals, hundreds of miles of them, cut through a peninsula between the Caloosahatchee River and Matlacha Pass. A large share of homes back onto water, with docks, pools and lanais facing the canal.

Most of the city was built as single-family concrete block homes, beginning in the late 1950s and accelerating through the following decades. Many of those roofs have now been replaced at least once, and Hurricane Ian in 2022 forced a new wave of repairs and replacements.

Global serves Cape Coral from its Naples office, heading north on I-75 and across the river. Our focus is the same here as everywhere: a careful inspection, clear options and a clean, well-managed jobsite.

Block homes on canal and inland lots

The typical Cape Coral home is a single-story concrete block house with a hip or gable roof, often with an attached garage and a screened pool enclosure. Composition shingle is the most common roof, with concrete tile on many newer and waterfront homes and metal becoming more popular.

Southeast Cape neighborhoods near the Yacht Club and the river include some of the city's oldest homes, while Cape Harbour and Tarpon Point feature newer, higher-end waterfront residences. The northwest and northeast sections are mostly newer inland construction.

When an older Cape home is reroofed, it is a good time to evaluate decking, roof-to-wall connections and ventilation. Converting from shingle to tile also requires confirming the framing can carry the added weight.

Canals, river and Gulf storms in Cape Coral

Water surrounds and runs through Cape Coral. The canal system and river frontage bring salt or brackish air to many homes, which affects fasteners, flashing and metal trim, and low-lying southern and western neighborhoods face storm surge risk.

Hurricane Ian came ashore just to the west near Cayo Costa in 2022 and hit Cape Coral with severe wind and surge. Charley in 2004 also brought damaging winds to the area as it moved inland toward Punta Gorda.

Open canal fetch lets wind build across the water, so rear roof slopes and lanai connections on canal-front homes often take the brunt of a storm.

Does Global Roofing serve Cape Coral?

Yes. Global Roofing & Contracting serves Cape Coral from its Naples office at 15468 Wildflower Cir, north on I-75. Services include free roof inspections, residential roof replacement, storm damage restoration and emergency services after storms. Call 239-653-9703, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., to schedule a visit.

Who issues roofing permits in Cape Coral?

Cape Coral is an incorporated city, so roofing permits are typically issued by the City of Cape Coral. The licensed roofing contractor applies for the permit and schedules required inspections. Most Cape Coral single-family homes are not in HOAs, though some communities such as Cape Harbour and Sandoval have architectural rules.

Can I switch my Cape Coral home from shingle to tile?

Switching a Cape Coral home from shingle to tile is often possible, but the roof framing must be able to support the heavier load. Tile can weigh considerably more than shingle, so an evaluation of the structure is part of planning. Global can assess the home and compare tile, metal and shingle options.

Is metal roofing a good fit for canal-front homes in Cape Coral?

Metal roofing is often a good fit for canal-front Cape Coral homes when coastal-rated materials and compatible fasteners are used. Standing-seam metal and stone-coated steel shed rain quickly and resist wind well when properly installed. Global recommends materials based on your exposure to brackish or salt water.

What should I do if my Cape Coral roof was damaged in a storm?

If your Cape Coral roof was damaged in a storm, start by protecting the home from further water intrusion, then schedule a thorough inspection. Global provides emergency services after storms, documents roof conditions and prepares a detailed estimate. Global can meet with your insurance adjuster when needed; coverage decisions belong to your insurer.
